Philosophy Why we exist

Our values

HostDec was born from a conviction: the web should not depend on centralized servers that can be censored, taken down, or sold.

🔓
Censorship-free
No government, company, or centralized actor can remove a HostDec domain. The contract is immutable.
♾️
Perpetual
A registered domain is yours forever. No renewals, no expirations, no intermediaries.
🌐
Decentralized
Content lives on IPFS, ownership on the blockchain. There is no single point of failure or control.
🤝
Community governance
HDEC holders vote on the future of the protocol. The project belongs to those who use and support it.
🔍
Full transparency
Verified contracts on Arbiscan, open-source code on GitHub. Everything relevant is public and auditable.
Low cost
Built on Arbitrum One so that registering a domain costs cents, not hundreds of dollars.

How can you contribute?

HostDec is an open protocol. There are many ways to be part of it, beyond registering a domain.

🐙

Code on GitHub

Report bugs, suggest improvements, submit pull requests on the protocol, DApp, or tools repositories.

🗳️

On-chain governance

With delegated HDEC tokens you can vote on proposals that define the roadmap, protocol parameters, and treasury usage.

📢

Spread the word

Share HostDec with friends, write about the project, create tutorials in your language, or explain the protocol to your community.

🏗️

Build on the protocol

Use the contract ABI to integrate HostDec into your DApp, create complementary tools, or event indexers.

🌍

Publish with IPFS

Register your domain, upload your site to IPFS, and prove that decentralized hosting works in practice.

Integrators have a voice If you build on HostDec, join the #builders channel on Discord to coordinate, give direct feedback to the team, and appear in the ecosystem project directory.
Frequently asked questions FAQ

Common questions

The most common questions we receive about the project, the token, and the community.

Do I need technical knowledge to use HostDec?
Not for the basics. Registering a domain requires MetaMask and HDEC tokens, nothing more. To publish a site you need to know how to upload files to IPFS (there are services like Pinata that do it without code). The desktop app installs with one click. If you want to integrate the protocol into your own contracts, then knowing Solidity is useful.
How do I get HDEC tokens?
HDEC is an ERC-20 token on Arbitrum One. You can get it on DEXs compatible with the Arbitrum network that list the pair, or directly through protocol distributions according to the team's roadmap. Follow @hostdec on Twitter to stay informed about community distributions.
Can I view my domain without the desktop app?
Yes, in two ways. From hostdec.com you can access the management panel and view the content. The HostDec server also serves domains directly: if someone has the server running and the domain pointed in their hosts file, they can browse to yourdomain.hostdec. The desktop app automates that process for each user.
What happens if I lose access to my wallet?
The domain NFT is linked to your wallet. If you lose access without a backup of your seed phrase, you lose control of the domain. That is why it is critical to store your recovery phrase in a safe place. We recommend using hardware wallets for high-value domains or those purchased on the marketplace.
Is there a governance token separate from the payment HDEC?
No. HDEC is a single token that serves a dual purpose: it is used to pay for domain registration and is also the on-chain governance token thanks to the ERC-20 Votes extension. To activate your voting power you only need to call delegate() once from your wallet.
Can I register a domain and sell it later?
Yes, domains are freely transferable ERC-721 NFTs. You can list them on the HostDec Marketplace in ETH or transfer them directly to another wallet. The buyer inherits full control of the domain, including the ability to update the site's CID.
