By accessing hostdec.com, using the DApp, interacting with the HostDec smart contract on Arbitrum One, or installing the desktop app, you are fully accepting these Terms and Conditions ("Terms").
If you disagree with any of these Terms, you must not use the service. Continued use of the protocol after any modification implies acceptance of the updated version.
HostDec is a decentralized domain protocol that allows registering domain names as ERC-721 NFTs on the Arbitrum One network and linking them to content stored on IPFS. The protocol consists of:
- Smart contract on Arbitrum One (
0x349d141cfe8fffb17443fcc1671bf75fe4db6e14): manages the registration, ownership, and administration of domains as NFTs. - DApp at hostdec.com: web interface to interact with the contract, manage domains, and operate on the Marketplace.
- Desktop app: local software that resolves
.hostdecdomains in any browser without extensions. - Marketplace: platform for buying and selling NFT domains based on the OpenSea Seaport protocol.
Registering a .hostdec domain involves executing a transaction on the Arbitrum One blockchain. By registering a domain, you accept the following conditions:
- The domain is assigned to the owner of the wallet that executes the transaction. HostDec cannot transfer, reassign, or recover domains on your behalf.
- The registered name must comply with the protocol's technical rules: minimum 3 characters, letters
a-z, numbers0-9, and hyphens in the middle. It cannot start or end with a hyphen. - Payment in HDEC tokens is final and irrevocable. No refunds exist once the transaction is confirmed on the blockchain.
- You may not register names that violate trademark rights, third-party proper names, or that constitute fraud or identity impersonation.
- HostDec reserves the right to refuse interface services to domains that infringe third-party rights, without affecting the existence of the on-chain NFT.
Naming rules
| Rule | Allowed? | Example |
|---|---|---|
| Lowercase letters a–z | ✔ Yes | mydomain |
| Numbers 0–9 | ✔ Yes | web3 |
| Hyphen in the middle | ✔ Yes | my-site |
| Starting with a hyphen | ✖ No | -domain |
| Ending with a hyphen | ✖ No | domain- |
| Less than 3 characters | ✖ No | ab |
| Uppercase or spaces | ✖ No | MyDomain |
The HDEC token is the official payment method of the HostDec protocol for domain registration. Its use is subject to the following conditions:
- The price of each domain is determined by its length and is set by the smart contract. You can check it in the DApp before confirming any transaction.
- For the contract to transfer your HDEC, you must grant an approval (allowance) via the
approve()function. The DApp handles this automatically. - HDEC tokens transferred to the contract for registration purposes are non-refundable.
- The market value of the HDEC token may fluctuate. HostDec does not guarantee any minimum value or price stability for the token.
- Marketplace operations (buying and selling domains between users) are conducted in ETH on Arbitrum One, not in HDEC.
- In addition to HDEC payment, every transaction requires a small amount of ETH on Arbitrum to cover network gas fees.
Each HostDec domain is a unique ERC-721 NFT on Arbitrum One. As the owner of a domain NFT, you enjoy the following rights:
- Perpetual ownership: the domain has no expiration date. As long as the NFT is in your wallet, the domain is yours.
- Content updates: you can link and update the IPFS CID of your site at any time via
setCIDWeb(), with no frequency restrictions. - Free transfer: you can transfer or sell the NFT to any address. Transferring the NFT means transferring all rights over the domain.
- Version history: the contract maintains a record of the metadata CID history, queryable by anyone on-chain.
NFT ownership does not grant trademark rights over the domain name, nor does it imply exclusivity over that name in other domain systems (traditional DNS, ENS, etc.).
HostDec acts as a domain resolution protocol and does not host or control the content published by users on IPFS. However, by linking a CID to a .hostdec domain, the user declares and warrants that:
- They own the content or have the necessary rights to publish it.
- The content does not violate copyrights, trademarks, patents, or any other third-party intellectual property rights.
- The content is not illegal, defamatory, threatening, obscene, pornographic (especially involving minors), nor does it promote criminal activity.
- The content does not contain malware, phishing, malicious code, or deceptions designed to harm third parties.
- The content does not violate financial services, securities, or regulated activity regulations in their jurisdiction.
HostDec may suspend domain resolution for domains whose content violates these conditions at the DApp and desktop app interface level, without affecting the existence of the NFT or the CID registered on-chain.
By using HostDec, you agree not to engage in the following actions:
| Prohibited conduct | Status |
|---|---|
| Registering brand-name domains to deceive or impersonate | Prohibited |
| Publishing illegal, defamatory, or hate-inciting content | Prohibited |
| Using the protocol for money laundering or illegal financial operations | Prohibited |
| Distributing malware, ransomware, or malicious code via IPFS | Prohibited |
| Attempting to exploit or manipulate the smart contract | Prohibited |
| Automating bulk domain registration for abusive speculative purposes | Restricted |
| Registering domains for personal use, projects, informational sites | Allowed |
| Selling or transferring domains on the Marketplace | Allowed |
| Building applications on the HostDec protocol | Allowed |
Violation of these rules may result in restricted access to the HostDec interface, without prejudice to any applicable legal actions.
The HostDec Marketplace allows users to buy and sell NFT domains among themselves. It is based on the OpenSea Seaport protocol and operates on Arbitrum One. By using the Marketplace, you accept that:
- Buy/sell transactions are irreversible once confirmed on the blockchain.
- HostDec acts as an interface facilitator, but is not a party to transactions between buyers and sellers.
- Domain prices are freely set by the seller. HostDec does not establish minimum or maximum prices.
- The USD conversion shown in the DApp is for reference only and may vary. The final transaction price is the one set in ETH.
- The buyer acquires the domain NFT and all rights associated with it, including any content linked up to that point. It is the buyer's responsibility to verify the domain's status before acquiring it.
- HostDec is not responsible for disputes between buyers and sellers.
Using blockchain technology, smart contracts, and digital assets involves risks that the user must understand and accept:
- Irreversibility: transactions confirmed on Arbitrum cannot be cancelled, reversed, or modified under any circumstances.
- Volatility: the value of HDEC tokens and ETH can fluctuate significantly. HostDec does not guarantee any economic value.
- Technical failures: blockchain networks, smart contracts, and IPFS infrastructure may experience outages, congestion, or failures beyond HostDec's control.
- Loss of wallet access: if you lose your seed phrase or private key, you permanently lose access to your domains and assets. HostDec cannot recover them.
- Smart contract vulnerabilities: although the contract is verified and auditable, no software is completely free of bugs. HostDec does not guarantee the absence of vulnerabilities.
- Network changes: upgrades or forks to Arbitrum One could affect the protocol's operation.
- Regulation: the legal framework applicable to cryptocurrencies and NFTs varies by country and may change. You are responsible for complying with the regulations of your jurisdiction.
To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, HostDec shall not be liable for any direct, indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, including without limitation:
- Loss of funds, HDEC tokens, or ETH due to user errors, wallet failures, or incorrect transactions.
- Loss of domain access due to loss of private keys or seed phrase.
- Outages or failures in the Arbitrum network, IPFS nodes, or third-party pinning services.
- Damages arising from content published by third parties on
.hostdecdomains. - Economic losses due to fluctuation in the value of tokens or digital assets.
- Unauthorized access to your wallet by third parties.
- Legislative changes affecting the use of cryptocurrencies or NFTs in your jurisdiction.

- Building applications, explorers, or tools that read on-chain protocol data.
- Mentioning HostDec in articles, analyses, or educational content with proper attribution.
HostDec reserves the right to modify, suspend, or discontinue any part of the service at any time. We may also update these Terms when necessary.
- Changes to these Terms will be published on this page with the update date.
- For significant changes, we will notify the community through official channels (Discord, Telegram, social media) with at least 15 days' notice.
- Continued use of the service after the new Terms take effect constitutes acceptance of them.
- Modifications do not affect already on-chain registered domains or NFT ownership rights.
HostDec may restrict or suspend access to the interface (DApp and desktop app) for users or domains that violate these Terms, including but not limited to:
- Publishing illegal content or content that causes harm to third parties.
- Using the protocol for fraudulent activities or money laundering.
- Attempts to attack, manipulate, or exploit the smart contract.
- Systematic violation of intellectual property rights.
It is important to understand the scope and limits of a suspension within the decentralized context of the protocol:
| HostDec action | Possible? | Detail |
|---|---|---|
| Block domain in the DApp and interface | Yes | The interface may stop resolving or displaying the domain |
| Delete the domain NFT | No | The on-chain NFT is permanent and cannot be altered by HostDec |
| Reverse the registration transaction | No | Blockchain transactions are irreversible |
| Delete content from IPFS | No | HostDec does not control the IPFS network or third-party nodes |
These Terms are governed and interpreted in accordance with the general legal principles applicable to digital contracts and decentralized technology.
Given the decentralized nature of the protocol:
- The smart contract operates autonomously on the Arbitrum One network, without HostDec's intervention in each transaction.
- Disputes between Marketplace users are the sole responsibility of the parties involved. HostDec does not act as an arbitrator.
- For any dispute related to the use of the interface or HostDec services, the parties agree to attempt to resolve the conflict amicably before initiating legal action.
- Each user is responsible for complying with the local laws and regulations applicable to the use of cryptocurrencies, NFTs, and digital services in their country or region.
